I agree with you. I'd think it more traumatic that there is a temporary restraining order against the mother's seeing her kids. To "abandon" 10- and 12-year old kids three miles from home in an area with which they must have been familiar is hardly traumatic, and they both probably realized they deserved it. A three mile walk home should have been just the thing to calm them down.
On the other hand, did they deserve to see their mother arrested? I don't think so.
