Back to school is here already! It's easy to get ready, having boys and living in a swamp; I mean, it's not like anyone has been begging me for new school clothes. They went off today in their favorite shorts and tees, eager to get on with 2nd and 5th grade. We've heard nothing but good things about their teachers this year, and they were really ready to go.
I've also resolved to go back to packing their lunch every day, even if it means sacrificing a little sleep each morning. They ate school lunch from January to May last year, but I really want to get them back on the brought-lunch wagon. Why? Well, One lost 6 lbs this summer: was it because he was so active, or did he just gain too much last Spring with all those tacos and burgers? I'm guessing half and half, but we're still not going back to school-bought food. Here's what they brought today; every day will look pretty much like this.

cool! don't you love them?! they help me with portion control (i would feed Wm too much without them), and they give Moose a way to see right away "ok, there's 5 carrots. i can deal with that." i only dislike them at 10pm when i remember i haven't washed them yet. ;)
Tari: Thank you for the mention of The Lunch Tray! I've been reading your blog - wonderful - and am especially loving your lists of books to read with children. My son hits these dry stretches where nothing I suggest grabs him (probably because I'm the one suggesting) and then will find some series he loves and won't put a book down for weeks at a time. Perhaps I'll just strategically stash some of your recommendations around his room and tiptoe away . . . :-)

Wm doubts me on some of my choices, so I just leave them on the "to be read" shelf and let him re-read a Redwall or 2 for the 20th time. He will finally pick the others up, and then devours them like potato chips. With his brother, I can only wait so long, and then I have to resort to bribery. He'd really prefer this whole reading thing hadn't been invented; it interferes with math and science time at school. ;)

I like mine because if they don't eat their carrots (just for example) ;) I can just take the carrot box out and put it in the 'fridge for tomorrow. I don't have to find a separate storage container. But both kinds are really cool and work well. Anything that helps me be organized in the early morning hours, I'm up for it.
Thanks for those! I think I like the laptop thing better because having to manipulate the big tray in the sink rather than the little containers would drive me nuts. To each her own. :)
